Airports

The AirportCast® weather service is dedicated to assisting airport companies in the management of air-side operational activities, both in relation to typical winter weather phenomena (snow, freezing rain or fog) and typical summer or autumn weather phenomena (thunderstorms, hail and strong wind). It is structured in the Weather Alert phase and, for the most severe weather conditions, in the Operations Room phase. AirportCast ® is integrated with the A.L.A.S. (Airport Lightning Alert System®) platform intended for lightning monitoring, which allows a detailed and real-time display of the lightning activity, the tracking of storm cells and their nowcasting forecast with the aim of ensuring a high level of safety for all ground activities (refuelling, baggage handling, passenger handling, etc.), thereby reducing downtime. The service also includes standard weather forecasts that can be shared with passengers.

Solutions

AirportCast®

The operational weather support service for airport managers, who can use it for managing all ground activities; includes a specific focus on lightning and storm monitoring.

The service provides daily forecasts of expected conditions for the following 72 hrs and 24/7/365 monitoring and support during the critical weather events for the customer, issuing bulletins with text and images and assuring a direct support by the Operations Room team.

Monitoring is performed by a team of professional Meteorologists and focuses on the phenomena of interest to the customer (lightning, thunderstorms, strong wind, fog/ceiling, ice formation, etc.) and on thresholds that can be set and customised for specifics needs.

The customer has access to the dedicated service portal where they can interactively consult the forecast and nowcasting weather reports, easily share information, and access the archive of all documents issued.

A.L.A.S. – Airport Lightning Alert System®

The lightning automated alerting service dedicated to airport managers, to support the management of ground activities and safety.

The service, thanks to the data collected by the Meteorage lightning monitoring network, allows you to obtain real-time information and timely alerts on the presence and evolution (nowcasting) of thunderstorms.

The system is designed to allow for the setting of automatic alerts when storm cells develop in proximity of the airport grounds.

The system allows for a high level of customization with regard to monitored locations, size of the area to be monitored, type of notifications and number of users to be notified.

Meteocast®

The interactive web platform in which all operational weather services and products are integrated; it is easy to consult and provides immediate, global, and shared information on current weather events and their evolution, to facilitate decision making even in complex organisational contexts.

Access to the platform allows the user to obtain a complete and real-time overview of the state and evolution of the weather situation; the user can view radar weather data, in situ weather station data, forecast models and other Radarmeteo services. All on the WebGIS system.

A Weather radar has the function of detecting atmospheric precipitation (rain, hail, and snow) in real time. Radarmeteo collects the data detected by the various national radars and integrates them into the dedicated mosaic plot; has also developed the Nowcasting functionality for short-term forecasting.

The platform and related services are optimised for access from all mobile devices (smartphones and tablets), allowing for quick and mobile consultation of weather data.
