“How is Italy Doing?” — IFAB Report on Extreme Weather Events in 2023/2024

This publication analyzes, quantifies, and monitors extreme weather events in Italy using the European Extreme Events Climate Index (E3CI). Based on data collected during 2023 and 2024, the report highlights the index’s value in revealing trends and impacts of extreme events across the country.

The document is produced and published by IFAB (International Foundation Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for Human Development), with the support of the CMCC Foundation (Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change) and Leithà. Through data, research, statistics, and trend analysis, the paper clearly illustrates the growing frequency and intensity of extreme weather phenomena, along with their dangerous impacts on geographic areas, production sectors, and communities.

In addition to an in-depth review of historical data and the identification of medium- and long-term scenarios, “How is Italy Doing?” presents the application opportunities offered by the European Extreme Events Climate Index (E3CI) — a suite of indicators designed to provide clear, concise, and up-to-date insights into the frequency and intensity of severe weather events across Europe. The goal is to identify long-term trends to assess the impacts of these exceptional climate events on the economic systems of institutions and businesses.

The E3CI index is distributed by Radarmeteo and Hypermeteo.
